Goal

When I joined TeleNav, the Auto Products team had been working on the Connected Car Experience and developing partnerships with a variety of OEMs.

Insight

I collaborated with Tangible UX to conduct user interviews and usability testing to gain a better understanding on what was and wasn’t working in the product. Accustomed to the Apple iPad UI, users expected a touch screen display — but the car’s environment required the user to interact with a variety of physical input mechanisms. Working closely with two designers, we designed an input independent UI (touch-based, rotary dial-for touch-based, rotary dial-based, and click wheel-based) that allowed the user to move through the interface quickly while being on their way to their destination.

Design

Homescreen is independent (touch-based, rotary dial-for touch-based, rotary dial-based, and clickwheel-based) allows the user to move through the interface quickly.

After entering a destination, users can save the address to their favorites for quick access. Scout GPS link calculates an estimated route and ETA

The input independent search experience allows the user to move through the interface quickly.

In the POI browser, users can browse through categories and add shortcuts to the homescreen for quick access. The green checkmark indicates the current selection.

Default state for the search experience is highlight 1, and a blinking cursor in the search field. Users can save, delete and enter an address.
